First Letter from Elder Hoyt from the Missionary Training Center (Handwritten)

March 27, 2013

Dear Family,

Wow, the first day here was incredible! I didn't have time to stop and take a breath for two whole minutes. I first went in and got my name tag along with other things, went to my room, dropped off my things, and went to class! The teacher spoke only in portuguese. I don't even know how to spell portuguese. I was hardly understanding anything, and on top of that, I knew absolutely no one. But it is incredible because I am realizing that just now at 9:30pm. In the moment of it, I felt great. I felt the Spirit saying that we are all here for the same purpose, and that we all have one goal that we are all just trying our hardest to achieve.

Now take that feeling and multiply it by 740, because that's about how many new missionaries came in today. The chapel we went in (to drop Spencer off, I think) was full, and the chapel just like it next door was full also. We all sang "Called to Serve," and the words to that song have never meant more to me until today. A member of the MTC presidency spoke to us and his wife, and after that we ate and taught "investigators" in a classroom setting with about 40 missionaries.

And by the way, my companion's name is Elder W. He is a great guy and is really excited about the work especially after today. We are both doing great, and I am so glad to be here. My P-day is Friday, but as new missionaries, we skip the first P-day, I guess haha. But I'm allowed to write today because it's my first day.

Anyways, I will write more in the email next week. I love you all, and thank you so much for the blessing, Dad, I loved it.

Love,
Elder Hoyt
